Joye’s Licorice Caramels – Cindy Leishman

1 can sweetened condensed milk

2 c. sugar

1 c. butter (not margarine)

¼ tsp. salt

1 ½ c. light karo syrup

Cook and stir constantly in heavy saucepan to soft ball stage (232 degrees) or light brown.

Remove from heat and add:

1 tsp. licorice or anise oil

½ tsp. black paste food coloring

 

Pour into 9X13 grease pan or small cookie sheet. Cool and cut in small rectangles then wrap in wax paper. Very fun Halloween Treat!
