Gingerbread – Relief Society Bulletin

½ c. sugar

½ c. butter or margarine

1 egg, well beaten

1 c. molasses

½ tsp. salt

2 ½ cups sifted flour

1 ½ tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. ginger

½ tsp. powdered cloves

1 c. very hot water

 

Cream sugar and butter well. Add eggs and molasses. Beat well. Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture. Add hot water and beat until smooth (batter will be very thin). Pour into a well-greased 9X13 inch baking pan. Ake in a 350 degree oven for about 40 minutes or until cake tests done. Serve warm or cold with sliced bananas and whipped cream
