Candy Cane Cookies – Relief Society Bulletin

¾ c. butter softened

¾ c. sugar

1 egg

½ tsp. vanilla

½ tsp. salt

½ tsp. peppermint extract

2 c. all purpose flour

¼ tsp. baking soda

red food coloring

In a bowl cream together the butter and sugar. Add egg, vanilla and peppermint extract. Set aside. In another bowl blend flour, slat and baking soda. Add dry mixture to the butter and sugar mixture. Divide dough in half. Add red coloring to one half. Chill dough for 30 minutes.

Roll dough into 5 inch ropes. Take the end of each strips and pinch them together. Twist ropes together, pinch remaining ends. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Curve top to resemble a candy cane. Bake 375 for 10 minutes. Cool.
